Safety ====== .. note:: This section provides essential safety information required to conduct your experiments at the beamline. Before receiving permission to start your beamtime, you will undergo general safety training from the SESAME safety office. An online exam will be required following the training to ensure that all users are prepared to work safely at SESAME. Personal Safety System (PSS) ---------------------------- Users of the MS/XPD beamline must be familiar with performing the experimental hutch search procedure independently. For details on the hutch search procedure, refer to `<#>`_. Beamlines Preparation Lab Safety Guidelines ============================================ **Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):** Users must wear appropriate PPE (e.g., safety goggles, and gloves, face mask ) when working with samples and chemicals in the lab. Ensure proper use of fume hoods when handling hazardous chemicals. **Chemical Handling and Storage:** All chemicals brought into the lab must be clearly labeled and stored in designated areas. Users must follow the proper procedures for handling hazardous substances. **Waste Disposal:** Dispose of chemical waste in appropriate, labeled containers as per SESAME guidelines. Solid and liquid waste must be separated and disposed of according to hazardous waste protocols. Users must not leave hazardous materials unattended or improperly disposed of in the lab. Samples disposal is the users' responsibility. Ensure that no leftover samples remain in the lab after your beamtime is completed. **Equipment Safety:** Properly handle and operate lab equipment to prevent accidents or equipment damage. Ensure that any shared instruments are left clean and functional for the next user. **Sample Transportation and Handling:** Ensure that all samples are securely sealed and properly labeled during transportation to and from the preparation lab. Handle fragile or sensitive samples carefully to avoid contamination or damage. **Access and Lab Etiquette:** Only authorized users are allowed in the lab. Avoid bringing unauthorized individuals into the lab. Be mindful of noise levels and respect other users who may be working in the same space. **Documentation and Compliance:** Ensure that all relevant safety forms and documentation regarding the samples are submitted and approved before beginning work in the lab. Additional samples, whether in type or quantity, are not permitted for measurement as they have not undergone the required safety evaluation prior to the beamtime. .. note:: Users are required to adhere to the detailed safety guidelines displayed in A4 stand holders, which are strategically placed throughout the lab for easy reference. In the event of a liquid chemical spill, users must be familiar with the appropriate response procedures. In case of an emergency, promptly contact the **Safety Officer** at mobile number **0798290024** or extension **212**.
